Introduction
This tutorial is an introduction to exposé and Album Manager for Windows. In it you will learn how to set up expose on your computer, install Album Manager, create an album, add some photos, and, finally, upload your photo collection to your web site.
Software prerequisites
You will need the following software:
- exposé 4.4
- Album Manager for Windows 2.7
Getting started
First thing you need to do is download exposé and Album Manager for Windows.

Unzip the exposé download to a convenient location. For example, place the expose folder that is inside the ZIP file into your My Documents folder. Inside that folder is a expose.html file; open it in a web browser to see a demo of exposé in action. Once you get bored with the sample photos simply delete the contents of the xml and img folders. You can find these folders in My Documents\expose\expose (the reason for the two expose folders in this path is that the second one stores all photo and configuration data). The figure below shows how the folder structure would look like in Windows Explorer. At this point you'll have a blank photo collection.

Now install Album Manager. Launch it using the shortcut placed on the Desktop, and you're ready to begin adding photos.

Creating first album
The figure below shows the look of Album Manager when you start it up for the first time.

Click on the Browse button, and navigate to the second expose folder as shown in the figure below.

Now click OK twice to select that folder to be used for storing your photos.

A new window will pop up, showing a blank photo collection. The figure below shows how it should look like.

Let's add a new album. Click on the +A button. In the window that pops up enter a title for the new album; in this tutorial we'll name it San Francisco. Click on Create to create the new album. The figure below shows how Album Manager will look after you create your first album. The album is still empty, as you can see from the Photos & videos pane.

Adding photos
To import some photos, click on the File menu, and select Import pictures....

In the file browser window navigate to the folder that contains the photos you want to add, select them, and click on Open. You will then see a screen like the one below.

Importing photos

The list on the left hand side shows the files that will be imported. It's important to remember that these originals will not be modified in any way; only resized copies will be created in the expose data folder.

The default resizing settings will appropriately scale the photos to make them fit well in the exposé frame. You can leave them alone at this point, and simply click Import to begin the importation process.

Once Album Manager is finished importing your photos it will go back to the main screen which will now look something like the figure below.

Changing photo properties
Let's edit the properties of the first photo. First select it by clicking on the row it sits in the Photos & videos list.

Now double-click on the property you want to edit. Make the changes in the text box that appears, and press Enter or click outside the box when done.

If all of the photos in the album share a common title, date, or location, you can right-click over a pre-entered value, and choose the corresponding Apply command. For example, you can enter San Francisco as the location for the first photo, then right-click above that photo, and select Apply location to rest of album.

Creating album thumbnails
After you have finished editing the information about each photo, you can create an thumbnail for the album they are in. First, you will have to pick a photo to use as a source for the thumbnail image.

Let's use the first photo in the album. To do so, right-click above the photo, then select Create album thumbnail.

In the window that pops up leave the settings as they are, and check Assign to current album. Then click OK and you're done -- the thumbnail image will appear underneath the album list.

Saving changes
You can save the changes you have made at any time by pressing Ctrl-S. Alternately, when you exit Album Manager you will be prompted to save the changes.
Copying files to web server
Once you have a created a photo collection you deem worth showing, you will need to copy it to your web server.

At this point you may decide you prefer a different name for the web page that will show your photos, and rename expose.html to something more appropriate, e.g. gallery.html.

Assuming you need to use FTP to transfer the files, launch your FTP client. Connect to the web server, and copy the contents of the expose folder (this is the folder that contains expose.html) to your web server. If necessary, place a link to expose.html in your index page.

You're done! Preview your files by loading the URL of the expose.html page in a web browser.
